2022 plans- finally reaching the Mediterranean?

We are planning to start walking again (first day: Tuesday 2nd August). This year we plan to finish the the GR5 at the Mediterranean. Actually we intend to take the GR52 for the last bit, finishing at Menton, rather than the GR5, which finishes at Nice. This should give us a more mountainous and exciting climax. It is just two of us walking this year.

As it turns out, in some ways this might not be an end but part of something even bigger (see About) but, for this year at least, we can treat it as the end of the walk (we’d call it a pilgrimage, but I’m not sure the French Riviera really counts as a pilgrimage destination).

We started this walk in 2017 at Lake Geneva- see 2017: Evian to Les Houches (GR5). The 2018 section can be found here: 2018 Les Houches to Modane (GR5 and GR55), and the 2019 section is here: 2019: Modane to Auron (GR5).

Then, you know, stuff happened and we have been unable to return until this year. So on Tuesday we set off from Auron, where we left off way back in 2019, which feels like the olden days.

As previously I’ll record our progress here, as and when mobile phone reception allows.
